Passenger on hijacked EgyptAir plane makes excellent case for keeping his contraband chicken

This week’s hijacking of an EgyptAir flight by a man wearing a fake belt of explosives could have been a tragedy, but the worst, thankfully, was averted.

That means, especially in Egypt, it’s time to joke about it. The Egyptian tradition of “nokat,” or jokes, in the face of “mossiba,” or catastrophe, is a treasured part of the national character.

That’s why Egyptians — and many others — have been sharing a darkly hilarious post from one of the passengers on the EgyptAir flight recounting the reactions of his fellow passengers when they thought the worst was coming.

The ‘farkha baladi’

The best story, if we could choose, is the one the man who valiantly defended the frozen Egyptian chicken he had smuggled onboard.  Read more…

Ashton Kutcher joins boy band for embarrassing dads

You may remember Ashton Kutcher primarily as a That 70’s Show teen — but he’s a dad now, and he’s ready to start embarrassing his child.

During his appearance on The Late Late Show this week, James Corden, Danny Masterson and Kutcher formed their very own boy band: The Puff Daddies.

The result, a hot track called “I’m A Dad,” is a glorious ode to fatherhood and its woes. The mom version might be a little more interesting, though.

Can Microsoft succeed without a serious mobile platform?

Microsoft hasn’t given up on Windows Phone just yet, but you wouldn’t know it from its Build 2016 developer conference

Each year, the company welcomes thousands of developers to Build to talk about the latest updates on all things Microsoft. This year, the updates included Windows, HoloLens, Xbox, Cortana and chatbots, but not — much to the chagrin of some developers in attendance — Windows Phone

In fact, despite doing many of the onstage demos with a Windows Phone, none of the executives who took the stage Wednesday even mentioned Windows Phone or Windows 10 Mobile. And while we weren’t expecting to hear about a new handset or any major mobile updates, the fact that Windows 10 Mobile didn’t even warrant even the slightest acknowledgment in the 2.5-hour keynote would certainly seem to be a strong statement in itself. The Internet found a way to improve on Justin Trudeau’s impressive yoga photo

It’s hard to top an image of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau doing a “peacock pose,” but the Internet will always find a way to deliver.

A photoshop battle of the PM’s proud moment of upper body strength from 2013, which went viral earlier this week, put the minds, bodies and collective creativity of Photoshop experts on Reddit to the test.

However, they certainly came up with some clever submissions that only made us all even more eager to move to Canada.

Namaste, Internet.

Chipotle is going to make burgers now

Look out, Ronald. Chipotle is coming.

The leader of the “fast casual” restaurant revolution best known for its burritos and guacamole now has its eyes on the burger industry.

Chipotle Mexican Grill confirmed on Wednesday that the company has applied for the trademark for “Better Burger,” a move that signals what could be a new chain under the Chipotle empire.

Chipotle already runs two other chains in addition to its flagship Mexican restaurants — the Southeast Asia-inspired ShopHouse and Pizzeria Locale.

Chipotle’s expansion into burgers comes at a tough time for the company. An E. coli outbreak followed by multiple instances at various Chipotle locations led to dozens of sickened customers.  Read more…
